                           ABOUT US

 APUA-Georgia Chapter was founded in February 2003 on the basis of Service of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy of Georgia.

 

Service of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy was established in 1996 by the members of Infectious Diseases department of Tbilisi Medical Academy.

 

                                                   Members

Service of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy present time unites health workers from Tbilisi Medical Academy, Scientific Research Center of Infectious Pathology, HIV and Clinical Immunology, Vakhtang Bochorishvili Memorial Sepsis Research Center, Scientific Research Institute of Pediatrics, persons of another profession.

 

Every person or organization, who has an interest in the activities of the Service of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy and share all its objectives, will be able to become the member of the organization.

 

                                        Objectives 

            To increase the prudent use of antibiotics to the health workers and the general public through education.

            To carry out research on the development of bacterial resistance.

            To exchange information and experience in national and international level in order to reduce antibiotic resistance.

            To organize meetings, seminars, conferences etc. at national and international level on the related subject.

            To collect information and publish documents on the prudent use of antibiotics and make them available to the concerned persons and organizations. 

            To edit and publish journals, magazines, bulletins, books and audio-visual materials for the achievement of the objectives of the Organization.

 

                                         Current Activities

Implementing periodic training of heath care workers who are eligible to prescribe drugs.

      Encouraging the involvement of national and international agencies in technical training, education and research related to the prudent use of antibiotics.

Facilitating research on antimicrobial prescribing in children with respiratory tract infections in Georgia.

Developing the national antibiotic guidelines, which will assist individual health and veterinary institutions to formulate local antibiotic guidelines.

The chapter produces a periodic publication for physicians entitled the Bulletin of Antimicrobial Therapy.
